I have a PM63 TS that was loaned/given to me several years ago. I don’t know the history but it looks like it has had a lot of use and maybe some abuse. One of the problems that I have had is keeping the blade in alignment. It seems that every time I tilt the blade, I have to realign it. Of course, it doesn’t help any that I forget to remove the plywood that encloses the rear of the saw for dust collection.
When the trunion bolts were loosened, it still did not have enough play to get the blade in alignment. I had to resort to loosening the nuts holding the rails(support for the motor) and was usually able to get it within reasonable specs. After hanging the motor back on, it usually shifted a little.
The PALS is basically the same as enlarging the bolt holes on the trunion to allow more movement. I initially removed the motor for access and did the install and alignment. Like always, after the motor was reinstalled, it was out of alignment again. However, this time, it was much easier to make the adjustments, even though the PALS did not WAD. You are supposed to be able to adjust a screw to shift the trunion either way but I was afraid that the steel screw might strip the threads in the aluminum bracket. As a result, I resorted to my Persuader aka 2x4 and hammer. I was able to get it back into alignment within .001 and verified via dial indicator and also Niki’s low-tech method.
