    Broken Cordless Drill-Driver.

It's a Craftsman, 19.2 volt, 1/2".. I've had it about a year and a half. It just gave up the ghost. When I squeeze the trigger all I get is a squeeking from the battery pack but nothing happens. Yes, the battery is charged.

Does anyone have any ideas? Can it be fixed?

    Thanks for your input.

Sounds like an opertunity to get a "new" refurbished Bosh 10.8 V Impactor from amazon for $79.99. I was just looking at them this morning.

        Tom,
No, it's not the motor. It's the battery pack that makes the noise. Yes, I do own a voltmeter. How do I start checking this thing?

battery noise is strange. can you spin the check/gearbox/motor by hand?
I'd check voltage at the battery after it has been in the drill and you've pulled the trigger a few times to see if the battery is actually charged. then I'd open the drill and check voltage at the motor with the battery plugged in and with the trigger pulled.

I can spin the motor by hand. I'll check the voltage. I will also try with a different battery. I think I have three that will fit this one.

Thanks for your suggestions. I'll let you know the result.

              Tom,
I'm not getting much voltage. It's giving just a few mv and the copper strap around the switch gets hot. Bad switch, huh?

not much voltage at the motor or battery? If you are talking motor I'd bet you're switch is toast. the next test I'd do is jumper wires from the battery directly to the motor ans see if the motor spins.

I tried jumping and all I got was a big spark. I guess it's time to get another one. Thank you for all your help. Maybe Santa will get me one.
