One of the most useful tools I've bought in a while

I had to layout some mortices today and the eyes aren't what they used to be. I had picked this up a couple weeks ago and used it a couple times but it made life so much simpler today laying out those 16 mortices. This is a real value to me as it was only $12 or so.

I have the longer version of it and it tends to get in the way when working with 2, 4 and 6 inch boards. I am afraid I am going to bend it accidentally. I wish I had the shorter version like you posted.

What is it and where did you get it? Does it come with a microscope to read that tiny little print?

It's an incra rule, you get them at the usual places, Rockler, Woodcraft. I have been using one for a couple of years and love it. It's great for laying out just about anything. I use mine for laying out mortises, dado's, etc....

Incra stuff is really cool. When marking for mortises, I like to use a sharpened needle instead of a 5mm pencil. The needle makes a cut that helps to guide your chisel.

I use my 6" version quite a bit. It's also pretty handy for BT miter slot alignment.

I picked up a Veritas saddle square when I got the Incra tool. That square gets a whole lot more use than the marking rule.
