They are used to flush-trim hardwood edges, even on curved panels. Bit of a luxury, but do a specialized job extremely well. Me, I couldn't justify the expense.

Interesting, I suppose this is going up against the relatively new festool router that can be setup for this fairly special purpose. Actually seems as though the festool is cheaper, shock and awe!

I guess one of the things more expensive than German made is Swiss made
I wonder then benefit is over a router?

A lipping planer can trim a swath about 2-1/2" wide in a single pass. This is tough to do accurately with a router, even if you can find a bit that long.

Uncle Cracker, here is the festool "router" that does it, it's a specialty tool as well.
