    Interesting new 'tool'

Got this as an email invite; seems to be a very interesting premise

    EZ Wood Project Planner

"Like to design your own projects?
This unique set of graphs, grids, and rulers will give you the tools you need to make your own schematics, cutting diagrams, and 3D illustrations."

Essentially he gives you a novelty ruler and grid sheets for different types of material.

An overkill for many here, but seeing he's asking only $4.95, I can appreciate the entrepreneurship - he's marketing something he saw value in his own workshop. I can see myself grabbing a couple of these printouts instead of plain paper while sketching something in the shop...

I got the same e-mail. Since I didn't know where it came from, I didn't open it. In my estimation, it's SPAM. Where did they get our e-mail addresses?

Do you know about kickback? Ray has a good writeup here... https://www.sawdustzone.org/articles...mare-explained

Good question; I got it at my 'shopping' email-id, which I use at rockler, LV, etc; so I assume from one of those web shops.

I have been deleting his emails also. Been getting to much spam, so if I don't recognize the sender of subject out it goes.

I got this one also, but it's the first I've seen from the mass-mailer it came from. Short of having a different email address for every company and individual that you deal with or converse with via email there is no way to be sure where the MM got your address.

If you use Google gmail, this is somewhat possible. Say your email is bobotheclown@gmail.com. You can create aliases by using the plus sign followed by, say, the site you are using it at - bobotheclown+lowes@gmail.com, bobotheclown+rockler@gmail.com. Then when you receive an email you can see where it was sent to know who to be pissed at.

The problem is that a lot of web forms refuse to recognize a '+' in the email field. That limits the usefulness of this but hey, if it catches one company it is worth it to me.

That graph type paper makes some drawings easy to do, including perspectives. Years ago, I got a promotional gift free with a shop order, it's a "Rolling Ruler" (something like this), that used to be advertised a lot on TV. Another really cool tool.

Those rolling rulers are totally cool! I keep meaning to buy one, but I never have cash & opportunity at the same time.

I got the same email yesterday, too. Since I was at work (heh) I opened it. My first thought was you can buy pads of the same type of grids at an office supply or art supply store. I passed.

I went ahead and popped for the $4.95 after spending some time with the free sample on his website. I have not been able to get anything useful out of any of the drawing/drafting programs (SketchUp, CadStd, etc.) and these make it easy to get scaled and 3D views of something fairly quickly. I haven't tried the cutting diagrams yet, but it looks to me like they should make it a little easier to get the most out of your stock.

I do exactly that. For Rockler, it is rockler (at) KeyLlama (dot) com etc... Easy to do if you have your own website. Most webhosts allow you to set up your e-mail as a "catch-all". So you could send an email to BigStupidJerk (at) KeyLlama (dot) com and it would come to me. (Go ahead and test it if you really feel the need.

Then, if I start getting spam with a company identifier, I know who sold my address and then I just set outlook to instantly delete all mail coming to that particular address.

I do get some generic spam, but my filter takes care of most of it.

Shouldn't this work if you own a domain name too, Doug? I'm asking - I don't know the answer for sure.

                          Yes, but...

Just owning the domain doesn't necessarily mean it is set-up for e-mail. The details depend on where you register the domain. Some provide some nice built-in tools and others do not.

If your domain registrar doesn't provide tools that will do it, you could handle it with free tools from http://zoneedit.com (MailForward)

I use them to forward my mail from old domains that I no longer maintain a website for.

Use Gmail. Their spam filter is awesome. I see maybe 6 pieces of spam a year, if that. I do check the spam messages when I order stuff online though since sometimes order confirmations, etc get dumped in the spam folder.
