    I finally fit in!

I picked up a Craftsman 22811 today, been looking for a few years, when I had the money, I could not find a saw, when I found a saw, I did not have the money. It is missing the extruded miter stop, but the sliding table is in tact. Now I can fully follow all of the Btx000 discussion, and actually have some idea what you all have been talking about. I have been out of work for a few months, and this saw has been my only "luxury" purchase, but I have been doing tons of projects around the house and my old saw was just too dangerous.

Remember our banner - It's not just about the saw.

Congratulations on the saw. As for the old one, make a post about the problems with it and there might be some helpful suggestions.

I grew up in Portage, live now in Hobart. (It pains me to be a Brickie). John, I hope you survived the flood unscathed. My home is on the top of a hill, so I was ok. My old saw was an ancient Rockwell with a stamped top and sheetmetal extentions. No matter how much I tried, I could not get a flat surface to save my life. The fence involved 2 wing nuts that you had to tighten or loosen. Setting the fence required dozens of fist bumps on this side, then that, top, and bottom...not fun. The danger involved came from the broken blade guard, riving knife, that seemed safter to remove than risk it breaking and kicking back. And the switch was on the far left side, requiring me to bend down and over to shut it off, not in a good location. But, now I have a much safer saw that I can be proud of lol. I have been looking at the accessory kit still available from Home Depot, I hope to be able to order it soon....kind of funny paying nearly double for accessories than I did for the saw.

Have a search on the Forum for "Accessory Kit" as there have been a number of posts about the price versus the usefulness of all of the contents.

There are some members here who upgraded to cabinet saws and may have the odd accessory surplus to requirements. If you could be certain of what you need, it might pay to put a "Wanted ... " post up, rather than just dive in for the kit.

              Ray.

Congrats and your old saw sounds a lot like my dad's old Craftsman. I got pretty good when doing rip cuts at keeping one hand free to wedge the kerf so it didn't bind.

I got a little water in the basement but no real damage. There are several of us in NW Indiana, we should get together for coffee some time.
