    Honing Compound

In another thread about sharpening I started to wonder as we used automotive sandpaper wether automotive, rubbing, buffing & polishing compounds could be used as I found an old tin of No 7 rubbing compound in a cupboard.

I contacted cyclo, the manufacturer, and asked if they could tell me what the effective grit sizes are. Here is their reply.

"The 07610 Polishing Compound is 1.4 microns 08610 Rubbing Compound is 65
    - 92 microns"

That would make the Rubbing COmpound approx 220 grit and the polishing compound around 1800.

    Food for thought...

Have you tried it to see if it's made of something hard enough to polish steel?
