    Contractor Saw PALS

I got the PALS from Woodcraft a while back and finally installed them after moving and just now putting my shop back together.

Took a bit of figuring out but not bad. Pretty straight forward. After working on it for a while last night, I feel like I have my Delta contractor's saw very well aligned now. And with that done, I got the Bies fence aligned as well. That part was certainly simple.

The test cuts I made last night are probably the squarest cuts I've made. You can get close with the miter gauge fence square to the runner even if the blade a bit out of alignment. But this is definitely better.

For any that have used these PALS.....did you do the alignment with the motor and belt attached or without ? I'm afraid to even say this because of what it might imply that I don't understand. Maybe things weren't tightened down enough after my first alignment ? I did the best I could the first time around and then put the motor and belt back on. The alignment was a little off at that point which was frustrating. So I redid the alignment with belt and motor in place.

Appreciate any feedback you can offer. I do feel like the saw is well aligned now, as I said. But I'd like to understand this a bit more too and you guys are always good at that !

Hi Steve - When I installed PALS on my former contractor saw I left the motor and belt on. I'd think that aligning it with the belt off would make the alignment different than aligning it with it on. The weight of the motor has to add some stresses to the equation that should be factored during the alignment....which you did in the end. Sounds like the proof is in the pudding!

It's clearly a change from where it was because my ZCTP is now rubbing. Going to create a new one tonight.

I'll be paranoid for a while....probably checking the aligment frequently. But I'm certainly encouraged. Little things like this affect everything else you try to do !

          Sorry, should've posted the link:

Basically, you remove the two bolts from the rear trunnion and replace them with these little brackets. The hex screws allow you to fine tune the alignment of the blade to the miter slots and then you tighten the other bolts down to keep everything in place once aligned. This only works for contractor's saws where the trunnions are mounted to the underside of the top -- unlike cabinet saws where the trunnions are mounted to the cabinet itself and the top can be adjusted separately to align things.
