    Replacing a Wagner Power Painter

This past weekend I did a lot of staining and painting with my little Wagner. I know that most folks hate em but to date mine has stained 3000sqft of fence, 2 decks, a playhouse/swingset and painted a bedroom and 1.5 sheds. The only problem I've had it is it jamming once when I forgot to oil it. My only gripe with it is the hoses you get to pull paint from a bucket are useless, it is too wimpy to do that. I have to stop and refill the cup. That being said, I have some gift cards to spend.

I am thinking of replacing it with something else and wondered if this (or similar) would work with my compressor. It is a PC pancake rated for 3.5 CFM @ 40 PSI IIRC. This gun also says nothing about spraying stain. Whatever I get needs to do both.

The small one (detail gun) will do "ok", the larger one will wear out your compressor fast. I use a full sized HVLP gravity feed gun with a 20 gallon compressor and it works "ok". They are set up for spraying thin materials, like stain, lacquer etc and don't do well with thicker materials like house paint.

Hmm... I'd be spraying paint a lot more than the thinner materials. Thanks for the info.

It seems as though the wagner conversion gun is really good for both thin and thick finishes but you aren't going to be able to use any decent sized gun with a pancake, they use a lot of air.

I have sprayed both stain and thinned paints with one of these. A pancake won't do it, though. The 2 qt cup helps reduce the amount of time to refill.

There is also an HVLP version of it.
