    Bosch Colt

How many of you folks have the bosch colt. I used to have the DW trimmer but never really got on with it. I have heard the colt (like other bosch tools) is a solid little performer - what do owners hear have to say about it?

Also how many of you have the installer kit with all the bases (PR20EVSNK), is it worth the extra money? I know you would only need to buy one of them (special base) afterwards to have made it worthwhile buying the kit. The offset and tilt bases look like they could come in handy.

I have the basic VS Colt and it is a great performer. I reach for it to do all of my round-overs, chamfers etc.. The only real issue I had with mine is the pesky little spindle lock. The spindle would not lock tight when making bit changes. I invested in a 10MM bicycle cone wrench for bit changes - about $3.00 and now change bits with two wrenches.

I find that is is nice and light and very stable when doing table top edges etc.. Just don't try to take too much off in 1 pass. I also did purchase a round base for mine which would accept Porter Cable bushings.

Great little trimmer and would buy another!

I have one with just the standard base that came in the kit. I think it is an awesome little router with plenty of power for the size. It is lightweight and easy to control. Although it has variable speed control, I really don't ever change the speed on it. I can't think of a 1/4" shank bit that has a large enough cutter profile to worry about slowing down.

I use it mostly for edge routing but have also used it for some dovetail work and a little bit of laminate trimming.

I have the Colt w/installer kit and the base for the PC guides. Only issue I have with it is, now my PC 890 seldom gets used.

have you used the "offset base with rollerguide" from the picture its hard to see what that one does and I havent seen one in the flesh.

I have the kit. I agree with the comment that the spindle lock is garbage - otherwise it's a great little router.

I have used the offset base a few times - basically it's another locking collet with a belt drive, so that the bit gets placed all the way at the outside of the base. It's helpful for routing into tight corners where the regular base might otherwise get in the way. It also acts like an oversized base allowing you to keep the weight of the router on the workpiece while the bit sits on the edge.

The tilting base is also nice, but the slot is a little small, limiting the bits that you can use in it.

I just recently purchased one those and consider it to be "one sweet new toy". I have only used it for some roll-over edging but it has performed better than I expected. I did order a PR003 Roller Guide -- for bits that do not have the roller guide built-in, but that hasn't arrived yet.

I have been following the posts about it and I must say that it more than meets my expectations.

              Regards, Steve

I hav the vs model, and picked up the handle and base from Pat Warner. Also bought the edge guide. Sweet unit!! I use it for edge trimming and roundovers mainly. Like the way it feels in my hand. Have thought about the offset base, but tough to justify the cost for the amount of times I can think of that I would use it.

I've had mine for a year and often use it in place of a chisel for installing door hinges. I'm a handyman and anything that saves time is appreciated.

Wont the standard unit take bushings? I hadnt thought about that, what base did you find that works and where did you get it from?

I have the VS model and like it. I made my own offset and PC bushing bases for it. Only takes a few minutes and some scraps. The hole spacing is goofy, however (asymentrical). The spindle lock is also a pain. I do not find the height adjustment to be real handy either (the little threaded rod part) but overall I still like it. I made another special base for it out of wood and have been using it to trim solid wood edging off plywood pieces. It will probably get used tonight to inlet some hinges.

Ever since I got mine, my bigger 1617 hardly gets used outside of it's spot under the router table.

I don't have any of the other bases, but I'd like a round one.

The spindle lock is indeed horrible. I sent an email to Bosch to complain...about a week later I received a wrench in the mail.

Nothing to add but ditto to most of the others. My unit, about 30 mos. old, is the basic Colt, and it gets used for nearly all roundovers and chamfers, and many straight bits as well. Great tool.
