    band saw mobile base suggestions?

as you guys know by now, i just bought a g0513 band saw.

i was wanting to get a mobile base for it. did a search and came up with HTC2000 as an option.

however, i was wondering if you guys have any other suggestions for a mobile base that i should look into. any home made base suggestions?

    thanks!

Woodcraft has a base that is simply four corner pieces, two of which have fixed wheels, and two of which have pedal-operated swivel wheels. You complete the base using a piece of 3/4" ply that you cut to size. Rikon actually recommended this base for my band saw, and it was easy to build (to the exact size I needed), and does an excellent job for me. Here is the link.

I recently got an HTC2000 for my jointer. its not the most ridgid of bases but its very easy to build and I like the lift mechanism. I think its about $50 ish at rockler and they have a 15% coupon in the current flyer.

I have HTC2000s under my jointer and bandsaw (18" Jet) and they both work quite well. With the weight of those machines the bases do not move on me.

          Another Vote for Woodcraft

I have the same (Woodcraft Universal Mobile) base Uncle Cracker wrote about. It's beneath my drill press. Just bought another for my band saw. Very easy to customize to any size by adding a piece of 3/4" plywood. Very stiff when set down and easy to move around the garage when necessary. I especially like the 2 convenient lift mechanisms. Kick them and go - no bending down.

I like Tim Will's lift that he posted here. We have all this equipment, wood and knowhow but we bypass that to go out and buy things like this when they can be made quite cheaply. Sometimes convenience is good sometimes it's wasteful. All depends on your point of view I guess.

I have a shop built base under my G0555 from Wood magazine plans but I couldn't find a picture of it. Several members have made them and someone should have a picture of their's that will be posted.

The lifts at the ends of the lathe cabinet are based on the same plans.

This is the MDF prototype to design the new lift lever.

                  Pappy,

Sorry about resurrecting an older thread but I am in the process of finally designing a mobile base cabinet for my BT Frankensaw. I have been researching all the available caster/locking feet options and I was wondering how your redesigned lifting mechanism worked out. Do you have any details on the construction of the top horizontal piece of ply that the lever mounts to? Is it notched to allow the lever through? What is the outline of the lever itself?

Sorry for all the questions but I currently have a homemade mobile base under the saws based on the same Wood magazine design but the saws were too heavy for the casters I originally used and the cam lever never really worked adequately. Thanks for any advice!
