    Ridgid r4330 question

looking into the purchase of this planer and had a question for existing owners... Reading the manual I see minimum specs to plane a board is 5/16th (page 17) and looking at the repeat-a-cut it goes from 1 3/4 to 1/8 (page 22). So how can it plane a board down to a thickness of 1/8 if you are not to lower the cutter below 5/16 OR use a board no thinner than 5/16?

From reading your question I think it means that the recommended maximum depth of cut should be 1/8" for each pass through the planer. I normally plane off 1/32" each pass and a final pass of 1/64".
Secondly, the thickness of the board to be planed should be no less than 5/16". You can put through board of 3/8" thickness but no less.
So on one hand its about "depth of cut" each pass, on the other it's the thickness of the board that the planer will handle efficiently or safely.
    I hope this help.

Yes, I did see where the maximum depth of cut is 1/8 but I'll enclose a picture to show you what I'm questioning. I'm sure you understand... but I don't which is why I ask.

It appears to me based on the repeat-a-cut that a board can be cut down to 1/8... but the manual also states a board and cutter head distant should not be lower that 5/16.

Is there a good guide on planer safety or best practices somewhere on the web you know about by chance?

      Thanks

looking at the pictures you posted I think they are telling you that they don't recommend material less then 5/16" even though the planer will go down to 1/8". That's why it's in the "tips" section, not the operation section.
