    Shopcraft Lathe

    Must be the day for buying broken lathes - I just saw Jussi's post.

    I bought a little shopcraft lathe for $15. Worked fine at first. After about 10 minutes it stopped working. After taking it apart, I discovered it still works, but only at full speed. Click the switch down below 5 and it stops.

    The motor looks like a drill motor and the speed control is a small box with a gear-driven rotary switch. One wire into and out of the switch.

    Anyone know if this speed control is just a variable resistor or something more complicated?
