    Delta Drum sander

Anyone have or have used a Delta 18X36 drum sander. I wish I had the model number but I won't get that for a few days. I do know he bought it last year new. I would rather have a Jet but no one in Alaska has any. Anyway I can get it for $1050.00 with a few extras thrown in. He says it is like new.

That sounds pretty high for a used 18/36 drum sander. The Jet new normally goes for 900$ (16/32)

I have not used the Delta, but my understanding is that they work well enough, but adjusting the table can be a hassle. It's more complicated than the Jet in terms of getting that parallel to the sanding head. The jet adjusts the head, the Delta the table. More degrees of freedom.

I paid $400 for my Delta 18/36 used.

Check the sandpaper clips for fatigue cracks where they they meet the drum at the knurl pins. Mine broke and cost me a new drum ($200 more).

Definitely high. I have one and it's a fine machine, but I wouldn't pay that for it.

I got mine for $250 and it came with a load of new paper in different grits. Works very nicely and I haven't had any trouble with the adjustments not holding. I guess equipment costs more there due to shipping, and this is heavy, but that price is robbery.

            Just wait long enough

I checked Craigs list 2 days ago and low and behold a Performax 16x32 pro is up for sale! That was close enought to the Jet 22-44 for me! The Jet is $2100.00 and a month out. I could wait for it since I've waited for over a year already trying to fine one here in Alaska. I bought it last night and set it up today. It had been used but very little. Get this, I thought it was to good to be true but it wasn't. $450.00 cash only. Hot I thought. No this gent has more equipment that I have even seen at schools! He just never used it. I had to do a couple of adjustments, like the drum alignment and feed table but that was easy with the orginal paperwork it came with. Oh did I mention it came with infeed and outfeed tables or the 3 full boxes of sandpaper? O.K. I'm gloating, I just could not stand it. I needed something like this! Now, on to my wood.

Thanks to all who posted. It did make me pause just long enought to get me close to what I wanted for a bargin.
