There's a working Jet JSL-610DC on my local CL for $60... Is it worth the trouble. I'm using a 6.5HP Vac right now and figure, if nothing else, this thing should be quieter.

I don't know that model. Is it similar to the DC-650? If so, it's probably worth the price. As you say, it will be a lot quieter. Also a lot more capacity.
I will probably be underpowered for central collection, though. You'll have to move it from machine to machine.

I couldn't find it even mentioned on the Jet site. I did find it mentioned here and on other CL listings where I eventually found a picture. It may have been a Costco only item or it was discontinued in favor of the JSL-650. I guess Costco closed them out a while back for ~$80.
On the other hand if the Lowes deal posted recently on the AP400 works out I'll go with that. My local store still has a few but won't budge on the 179.00 price, but it's now removed from as "available at your local store" on the website.Comment

The AP400 is now $138 on amazon. Do note that this DC only has the 30 micron filter and an "emptyable" bottom bag.
If you can pickup a used one for less than $100 that is a step up from a shop vac thats one thing but IMHO if you are going for a new DC go the extra mile and get one as good as you can. I did a lot of soul searching and ended up paying the extra for the delta 50-760. 1 micron filter, 1,200 cfm, 11/2hp and plastic collection bags.
My shop/garage no longer has that fine film of dust all over it and more importantly that means I havent been breathing it in. I figured that was well worth the extra money.
If you do end up with the AP400 or a used DC, at a minimum consider getting an after market filter of at least 5 microns.
Remember that when looking at a DC its not just what it sucks up but what it blows out as well. 30 microns are actually pretty big holes!!!Jon
