    Sled bevel jig

Earlier this month, Sawatzky posted asking for suggestions for cutting bevels with our left tilt saw.

I have always felt uncomfortable with the fence in the left side of the blade. And, the box lids I was making required the blade to have at least three inches exposed.

I made a bevel jig for my sled that allowed me to do the cuts and feel safe. The blade always stays at 90 degrees.

As you can see I used some mahogany scrap that had been routed for drawer sides before they were discarded. And, a piece of piano hinge I had around. I tack it in position with my brad nailer.

Nice work, I had been thinking of making something similar and I like your solution.

Couple of questions: What did you tack w/ your brad nailer? The piece you're cutting?

Also, this rides against the fence, not in a miter slot, right?

The original post was about a RIGHT-tilt blade and trapping the cutoff against the fence causing kickback, but that looks like a neat jig anyway.

I tack the jig itself to the sled when it is in the correct position.

The sled rides in a single miter slot.

I hold the work piece to the jig with spring clamps. I have since, glued 320 grit sandpaper to the face of the jig.
