    Need Advice - Please

Okay, the local tool company is having their annual tent sale until 3:00 today.
If you buy $200 worth of Oldham Viper Router bits you get a free Porter Cable 2-14 HP Fixed base Router (not sure of model # but they look very nice).

The bits are deeply discounted -- i.e. if it was a $30 bit it is on sale for $8.99. $75 bit on sale for $30 etc...

Story on the Routers is that they were sent out for sale. A problem was discovered before they were ever sold and sent back to the factory to have the problem fixed.

Think I should take the deal? I currently have a fixed based Milwaukee 2-14 hp and I ordered the plunge base while at the store today.

IMHO, there are better bits. These can be fine for ones you burn through (use up regularly) or want to use these for construction projects and keep your good one for shop projects.

If that gets you to $200 for a "free" router, then fine. Otherwise, just buy another router if you want one. (just wait and watch the bargain alerts)

Your Milwaukee, is a fine router. (from someone who has fallen to multiple router addiction, but only has TWO hands!)
She couldn't tell the difference between the escape pod, and the bathroom. We had to go back for her.........................Twice.

I guess the first thing to ask yourself is wether you actually need any bits or indeed another router. Having at least 2 so you can keep one fixed in a tbale is very useful. I have 2 and also a DW lam trimmer.

If its a PC 2 1/4 its probably the 892. As recon'd units they seem to go for around $140-$160. Amazon has it new for $177.

If you actually NEED a bunch of bits and the prices are good then this does look like a deal.

You should check that the PC router still comes with a warranty

$200 will buy you another nice Milwaukee router which IMO is a better router than the PC. Unless you just need a mess of bits. Pat

There's reasons for "teaser" deals like that. I agree with the others about gettin' a bunch of bits, some you may never use. It's like those special bit selections that have bits that just sit there in some wood box. DAMHIKT.

            Thanks for the advice, guys.
I opted to not go for it.
I really could use one of those ceiling air cleaners anyway.

              advice?

That sort of sounds like a "come on" type deal to me! Buy $200.00 or more and get a free router???? Ain't nothin' free in my opinion....sounds as if they are stuck with some defective factory rejects and have to unload this junk any way they can to recover their losses. I for one, would stay
clear of these parking lot deals....just another way of some con artists to take your money and leave you holding the bag! eezlock
