Freud Diablo and Avanti 7 1/4" Circular Saw Blades

I am looking to acquire a thin kerf finishing blade for cutting plywood with my 7 1/4" circular saw. The Freud D0740X Diablo and the Freud Avanti TK303 have been recommended by several others on this board.

    http://www.amazon.com/D0740X-Diablo-...9486667&sr=8-1

    http://www.amazon.com/Freud-TK303-Fi...9486808&sr=1-5

I do not see the Diablo line listed on the Freud website.

    http://www.freudtools.com/c-2-saw-blades.aspx

Is the Avanti is designed to replace the Dialbo line?

Does anyone know if there there are significant differences between these two blades?

I had asked Charles McCracken about the Diablo section of their website, as they used to have one. He said a new one was in the works but not done yet. The Avanti isn't replacing the Diablo. I believe the Avanti is a thicker kerf, but here were the spec's he emailed to me on the Diablo (7 1/4)
    Kerf on the D0740 (7-1/4" X 40T) is 0.059".

Other then kerf, I believe the Avanti was supposed to be a line with enough carbide to sharpen a couple of times. The Diablo is considered a contractor, pitch when dull line.

      Update:

I sent an email to Freud customer service and received the following reply from them:

"The Diablo is not on the Freud site as we are working on a site just for Diablo. There are a few differences in the D0740X and the TK303. Diablo has a PermaShield coating and the TK has a Silver Ice coating. The TK has a little thicker plate and cuts a little wider kerf. There is a new Diablo blade that is better than either of these which is a Diablo D0760X which has 60 teeth."

I think I am going to give the Diablo D0760X a try, once I find a place to buy it. My web search comes up empty.

Fwiw, the only info I could find said they are very similar, just that one is pushed to contractors, the other to home owners/woodworkers. I'm guessing it's the Diablo to woodworkers, as they are available in HD, don't think I've ever seen Avanti there.
Not a lot of info out there!

I bought both of my TK 303's at Lowe's. If the Diablo D0760X is new, it will be a while before it makes it's way into the box stores. Check with a tool dealer in your area. I have a good source I will check with tomorrow.

@_@ - HD caters to contractors which is why they offer the contractor blade, the Diablo. The Avanti is the woodworker's line. Both are outclassed by the L series.

Home Depot by me has the 24?, 40 and 60 tooth Diablo's. Lowe's only carries the Avanti (at least by me).

I don't have experience with either blade, so take this opinion with a grain of salt...

I recently purchased the C-Man Pro circular saw that has the Freud blade on it. I don't know if it is the blade, the extra power of the saw, or both, but man was I happy over the weekend working on the dog house. Cut through 2x4's without batting an eye. It was an absolute joy to not have to struggle with the circular saw for a change.

I will say that the cuts were nice and clean with very little tearout. Even SWMBO could tell the difference. Told her that I am now hooked on the good blades, and will use the cheap ones only when I'm not afraid of tearing them up. I have now learned the value of a higher quality blade. Use crap blades for cutting crap, but use the good stuff when it matters.

I didn't think HD catered to anyone :-)! I don't know if you remember when they first started out, but all 'sales associates' were instructed not to give instructions as to where a product was, but to take the customer to the product!
Today, if you get a grunt and a finger point rather than a 'that's not my department' consider yourself lucky!
This is of course directed at the majority. If you are in the minority who actually give a crap and do your job, thank you, much appreciated.

I bought an Oldham 40 tooth last time I was in HD and used it last weekend to rip down some 1/2 baltic birch. The cut was not real smooth but the saw cut easily. It was $10. Smoother would be nicer but I cut to final size on the BT3100 anyway.
