It looks like Jet is finally going head to head with Harbor Freight with a line of fine tools. I'll bet the original founders of Performax are not happy. http://www.performaxpower.com/saws.html

I have seen them at Menards. Some of the tools seem ok. If the price was right and it was only going to be used once or twice - they might be worth a look.\"Experience is the toughest teacher. You get the test first and the lesson later.\"Comment

I don't see what all of the halabaloo is about... Performax has been around for a while now. I have their OSS, and have found it to work well. I also have their DP, and it's not great, but it's not terrible for the money.
I wouldn't get their lathe- but then again I wouldn't get Rockler's mini lathe either.Comment

I assume these are all made in China? Like very other tool these days?
I will probably get the OSS one of these days, which looks identical to the old Ryobi OSS which I think they no longer make. FWIW I really like the color scheme.Jeff

I've heard the Ryobi OSS has a larger table, but that the extra size isn't a benefit. Frankly, it does what I need it for, and getting a better one would cost much more $$.Comment

Performax mini lathe
I bought the mini lathe a year ago and it has performed well for pen turning. It is a nice entry level lathe. This lathe is sold under four different brand names: Performax, Shop Fox, Wilton and Turncrafter Plus. The Performax name has the best price. It is a true variable speed (no pulley adjustment) just turn the knob.Comment

No offense intended Bigguy. I haven't seen any of that stuff at stores up here, so assumed it was a new product line for Jet.I don't see what all of the halabaloo is about... I didn't take any personal offense to it at all. However, you stating you thought it was a totally new line doesn't allay the fact that you seem to be making judgements on a product line soley on the price of an item.
Surely higher end and more $ lines will be a better product, but that doesn't mean that they can't have a hobbyist line at a lower price point that's still now a total peice of crap....
IMHO, that is.Comment
