    Today was new tool day

I think this is my last major tool purchase for a while, can't think of anything else I need.

    Todays haul:

I listened to what everyone said in the thread about which jointer to buy and finally went with the Jet 6". Why that and not the Rikon? Well, the Rikon manual was almost as bad as the HF bandsaw manual. How to assemble with low quality pictures and nothing more. The Jet on the other hand was comprehensive and I'm now ready to start the adjusting process with pretty good instructions. I judge a company by among other things the quality of their manuals, that shows attention to details and follow through to me. Also the Jet was on sale for $379 w/rebate although that wasn't a deciding factor. Fired it up a few minutes and that thing is quiet, I was expecting a lot more noise.

A General mobile base, haven't decided if I like it yet. First impression is not good.

A Triton powered respirator. I'm going to be working with Padauk again and last time it tore me up so bad the wife pretty much insisted I get one. Guess I'm even less attractive with my eyes swollen almost shut. The beard gets in the way of a regular mask most of the time anyway. Also, she is getting more involved in this activity and is allergic to almost everything it seems. Better safe than sorry as I don't want to be jamming an eppie pen into her leg if something sets her off badly.

Last but not least, we signed her up for a beginners wood turning class on the 27th. She is interested in learning that skill and I'm encouraging that interest, if she likes it then I'll get her a nice lathe and tools.

Now to rearrange the shop yet again.

Decided to get a mini lathe for my pens. My big 7-footer is great, but its 2hp motor and reduction gearing really howls when it winds up, and much of my turning is late at night, so it's time to let my neighbors get some sleep... Going to do the Jet 1014VS while it's 10% off at WC and a $25 rebate to boot. You can barely hear that thing running when you're standing next to it, and 2hp is overkill for pens, anyway. After that, I will be done buying tools for a while, too (nothing left that I need)...

Must be new tool day all around. I have been looking for the larger base for my drill press for about 4 years. The head unit was the same between the benchtop and the floor model (If I remember correctly (plate is hard to read), Atlas model 64 from about 1948). One Atlas floor model popped up on the local CL but is a newer model. I picked it up for 1/2 of the normal HF prices, so I don't feel too bad.

I am going to have to give up CL for a while, in the last two weeks I have seen TOO many items (Leigh dovetail jig, Ryobi drum sander, multiple cabinet saws), I was leaning toward the Leigh till I found this.
She couldn't tell the difference between the escape pod, and the bathroom. We had to go back for her.........................Twice.
