    Is this gloat-worthy?

I've been scouring CL and the classifieds for a good deal on a bandsaw for some time now. Today it finally paid off, I guess. I found this on Craigslist just a couple miles from me (the guy actually goes to my church). It's a 12" Craftsman with stand circa 1987 and I got it for $40. It appears to be in decent shape for the age, but it does need a tune-up. For the price I couldn't pass it up. Was this a good deal? Obviously I would rather have a 14-16" with a bigger resaw capacity, but I just won't use it enough to justify dropping that kind of money.

By the way, does anyone have a link to a good BS maintenance tutorial? I already downloaded the owner's manual from Sears, but it isn't extremely helpful. Thanks.

Hard to go wrong for $40! Interesting that it's a "bandsaw-sander". Guess you can replace the blade with a loop of sandpaper.

Yep, there was a big sanding belt and platen that you could run on it, but checking the Sears website it has been discontinued. Maybe it wasn't such a great idea(?)

Nope ... , uh, well, maybe ... well, yeah. But if you don't like it I'll take it!

              Its a nice model

I have the same one I picked up from my dads house about a year ago. It sat at least 10 years without use. I thoroughly cleaned it, bought a new blade (Lowes), and it now works like a champ. If you wanted to get a users manual for it ( I keep putting it off), just go to the craftsman website and order the 113.243310 . I think its 8 bucks. As far as the sanding belt, not sure I ever would have used it anyway.

Yeah, not having the sanding belt wasn't the end of the world for me either, but it would have been fun to play with. I think with a good cleaning and new blade it will be ready to roll. And I also picked up one of the Portamate mobile bases for $10 at the BORG today, so it will literally be ready to roll now

On a side note, while looking for the Portamate at HD I came across a BT3 accessory kit sitting in the floor in the tool crib. Took it to the cashier for a price check and it was no longer in the system. She called the tool crib guy, and he came and looked at it. He then gave the cashier a dummy SKU to ring it up, but when I asked the price he replied $99 - the price on the tag. He said that since it had been clearanced out of the system that was the only price he could use and that it really should have been trashed instead of being put back on the shelf. When I refused to buy it for $99, off he went to the dumpster with it. What a waste...

Whatever happened to capitalism? It's easier to trash it than get a few bucks for it? Sheesh, you'd think he'd at least pocket $10 rather than toss the thing!

I hope you pulled alongside the dumpster on your way out of the mall!
