Air Compressor problem Please provide input

    Hello
I am having problems with a Kobalt 26gallon compressor i bought a few months ago. I am just a hobbyist and up until yesterday it has only been lighlt used. I have followed all the instructions and drain it consistently.
Yesterday i used the air hammer to remove ceramic floor tiles from my home. This was hard on the compressor to stay caught up and it ran pretty much non stop for 2 to 3 hours. As I was finishing the motor started making a different noise and i set my tool down to let it charge back up. The tank pressure will not get above 120 now. the petcock is closed and there is no leaks in any of the hose fittings.
Can someone help me out here please?
    thanks in advance

does it continue running but never build more pressure or does it stop when it gets to 120?

I'd find out about getting it warrantied. sounds to me like it has a messed up valve in the head.

If it's an oil-less there's a good chance that the piston is worn. You can inexpensive kits to rebuild the upper part of the compressor.

I have an oil-less Bostitch and I've run it for 2-3 hours 10-12 times plus shorter periods of time spraying with my Wagner HVLP sprayer. It ran continuously until I got the settings just right and still runs at least half the time. It also still works fine. I do not think you abused your compressor - seems like you got a bad one.

I went home last night and took off the shroud, removed the tube intake and the head and cleaned it out. there was very little dust. put it back together and results are the same. but it will not get above 80 or 90 tank pressure.
it just runs non stop and its making a loud "ticking" noise.
i do not have the receipt for the purchase so i am guessing they will not honor warranty.

I had a similar problem with my Craftsman compressor recently. On mine, there is a rubber o-ring type seal between the pump head and the copper tube that takes the air to the tank. This seal had deteriorated and was leaking. I heard a ticking sound as you describe - it was coming from the area of the leak. You may also have a leak somewhere - check the copper tube for cracks and any seals for leaks. The seal that I needed was only $2 from Sears, but they charged $7 to ship it HTH

Thanks for everyones input. I contacted Lowes and they are going to allow me to return it for store credit! Which I will have to return the 6 tools that originaly came in the box. This will give me a 300 dollar store credit.
So now that I have a do over I definitely want to get an oil driven compressor due to the loud noise of the oiless. Any suggestions on a Lowes oil driven compressor in the $300 range? Thanks again for any input

i would go for their 60 gal upright oil compressor (kobalt). i think it is for 399. so try to take an ace hardware coupeon and see if they will accept their competeter's coupone. i think it is for 10% off of 200 or more. i will check and reconfirm that for you.
