Am I missing something here? Rockler HVLP replacement cups

OK, so I was looking at the Rockler Innovations page on Rockler's website, and I saw something that made me curious. They had a storage container that looked pretty standard to me:

Then I thought a bit, and I said to myself "I've seen this before". And indeed I have. But at twice the cost...

    Go figure.

I got some of the HVLP replacement cups last fall that were defective for that use--the threads on the cup would slip when you tried to screw the spray top down tight--letting the finish ooze out of the sides of the cap under pressure! Once I had cleaned up my project from that minor disaster and got on the phone, Rockler said they had got a bad batch from the manufacturer and sent me new ones that work fine. I wonder if the cheaper ones are the "not quite ready for HVLP" batch. I think the caps that came with the cups worked fine, just that the threads were not quite deep enough to mate reliably to form a seal with the sprayer top.

I think a lot of "clever" Rockler customers are going to learn the same lesson you did (and the hard way, too). Perhaps someone should add a review w/ that tidbit of information to save people some heartache.

Sounds like making lemonade when you get lemons!

Wish I were clever enough to recover something beneficial from my many faux pas.
You might think I haven't contributed much to the world, but a large number
of the warning labels on tools can be traced back to things I've done...

The problem is mentioned in the reviews for the HVLP version of the cup.

And I think Chris is probably right. I also purchased one awhile back for HVLP use and found it didn't seat correctly. I got the same explanation...a bad production run. They replaced it quickly with one that works and let me keep the bad one. I'm sure they are just trying to recover their loss by re-purposing the defective cups.
