Nay. Everyone I know who has tried the attachments for the drill presses, have been disappointed and bought dedicated mortisers (or switched to a router, depending on amount of use).
Even people have prefered the HF one, but they prefer to buy better chisels for it, or learn to sharpen them.

Another Nay TB.. Save your money for something more substantial... Everyone I know that has had one.. everyone on every forum I have posted that has had one.. would give you a Nay also I believe. I have seen some say come and get it for free if you want it.

And I say everyone.. that is not entirely true.. There is a gentleman named Ray Pine up in Virginia who is a professional wood-worker and builds and restores period pieces that has used one for 20 years and love it. Go figure as Ray is an excellent artisan...

Bad taste in mortise devices though, I suppose.

          Regards...

I just emailed him, he hadn't answered my first one, and told him to forget it. I will wait and find a true dedicated machine. Thanks you guys you just saved me $40. I have taken you advice and saved money on purchase and now I have save by not purchasing. Oh but while the site was down for 4 or 5 days I did purchase 3 saw blades all by myself. 1 Amana from Holbrin and 2 Frued Rip blades, off of Amazon. both excellent deals. Trying upgrade some of my equipment before starting on new kitchen cabinets later in the spring.

I have the Delta version that I bought for $59 from Lowe's just before the price went to $75. That was about 4 years ago. I guess it works ok. It is not NIB, just still wrapped in the plastic in the case and it sits there adding balast to the drill press stand with no adjustments.

I got one with my 17" Jet drillpress. It makes for a good paperweight. If you have a Harbor Freight close to you, their mortiser is on sale for $99. You might even find a 15% off coupon on one of their sales fliers.

My neighbor has one of those quill attachment thingies. Hates it. Says it's a PITA to switch back and forth from drill to mortise, and says that, no matter what, if he wants to drill, it's set up for mortising, and if he wants to mortise, it's set up for drilling (claims some sort of conspiracy). Comes over and uses my mortiser instead (HF, $69 on sale and with 15% off coupon). If you have the space in your shop for a dedicated machine, it's the way to go (just be prepared if you get the HF, because you'll want to improve the crappy hold-downs and bed that come with it).
