look what I got for free

    http://www.amazon.com/Professional-W...361433&sr=1-19

it was on my doorstep when I came home from the dentist. I was surprised that they used machine oil on the base on such a cheap tool. Its actually not that bad. I just need to sharpen the blades, and I'll be able to use it. Only problem is that the blade angle adjustment on the jack plane doesn't work, but for $10 I'll have no problem using a hammer to adjust that.

I was working on some Stanley and Record planes I picked up second-hand, mostly to get them cleaned up and sharp. Then I took a look at the Corsair plane my father-in-law gave me years ago. The chip breaker is uneven and has a bead of metal where it shouldn't be. Even with a sharp blade, it doesn't appear to cut very well.

Let us know how they work for you.

I got a amazon gift certificate for doing some surveys, and I need a plane or two for random tasks, like slimming down a door, or evening out the top of my blanket chest I've been working on

I looked at the chip breakers, and they actually seem to be pretty straight. They have a slight radius, but so does the plane blade, so I'm guessing they sharpened it like that so you don't have to worry about the edges digging in.
