    • Now a Sears 21829

    bt3100 went down with forum

When forum went down for server move, my bt3100 smoked the motor. I am really thinking about replacing it with Sears 21829, reason being, I built a big cabinet with WTK, dual miter slots, and more and it looks like the 2189 will fit just right.

I thought about just replacing motor but decided against it for various reasons and since I cannot get a new bt, would like to know anyones thoughts on the Sears.

Thanks in advance for any and all feedback offered.

Sure, why not? You've got a lot going for you with the WTK, cabinet, etc. The 21829 should be plug and play. Plus, you'd have backup portble stand if you ever need to go mobile.

While I am not sure if the 21829 rails profile is EXACTLY the same, it is at least as close as the BT3000 is to the BT3100. However the rails on it are 6" longer (by a couple of posts here). There is also the minor difference in height of the tabletop (21829 is flat, verses the BT).

So, you have a dead saw you were happy with, and are planning on reusing the "support structure" you built. In my view, buy it, see what works and what needs to be swapped between the saws (will the 21829's top work or do you need to swap). Then part out the other (rails, wheel, etc) and sell the portable base if you don't see pulling off your other saw.
She couldn't tell the difference between the escape pod, and the bathroom. We had to go back for her.........................Twice.

I own the 21829, and absolutely love it - would buy it again in a heartbeat (at the sale price, of course.) I was pretty certain that the 21829 is the BT3100 in CM clothing with some extras, so everything should be interchangeable between them. The 21829 has some storage clips on the side and back (SMT stores on the back, and the fences & miter gauge store on the side - not sure if the BT3100 had those, but you may need to remove them to suit your application.)
