    HF Mortising Machine

Is the HF Mortising machine any good? I do not do a lot of mortising so I have a hard time justifying buying one, but for $100 plus 10% off it is feasible.
    I love lamp.

I have it and hold downs are great but it went through walnut like butter. Well worth the 85.00 I spent on it.

I have one, and it works for what I need it for. Anybody who does a lot of mortising probably would be happier with a higher-dollar machine. The table and clamps on the HF are pretty much a joke, but you can beef it up pretty easily.

I have one that I'm happy with. You do have to plan some time to hone the chisels. You also pretty much have to buy a cone-shaped hollow chisel sharpener from Rockler.

The modification that many of us have in an XY vice instead of the stock hold down. You can usually find one on sale at HF for around $25. If you search the forum's archives, you'll find plans for how to do it. With the XY vice, that mortiser works very slick.
