    Craigslist almost got me

On Monday I saw an add for a Craftsman 6"Disc 4"X36" belt/disc sander for $40. I had been looking for one and had missed on a 3 or 4 real nice ones for various reason. Contacted seller and got the Model # and how long he has had it, 1yr. Made arragements to drive for an 1hr Saturday to look l at it and possibly buy it. Looked it up on the Sears site. 1/3hp 1100 rpm on the belt and 2200 rpm on the Disc. Rated as a Crapsman and not worth the money. Emailed the guy and cancelled, Not getting up at 6am and driving in rain for an hour for a piece of junk. Thank God I checked the thing out. I have had good luck buying things on Craigslist but this might have bit me, no wonder he is is getting rid of it after 1 year. In the pictures it looked almost new. Will save the 40 and get something later.

Take a look at the Hitachi for $129 at Lowe's. 4x36 belt and an 8" disk. Got good reviews here and on Amazon.com. Currently $111.70 on Amazon with free shipping if you don't mind waiting 7-9 days for shipping.

Thanks for the information I will look into it. Sears has really gone down hill on a lot of their stuff as everyone has pointed out. Our church has one of thier Leaf Blowers another Crapsman. Been working on all and finially got it running again constant battle with it. I am going to buy a new one for them as I am the head grounds keeper now and I don't feel like fighting with the tools. The guy relisted the Sander but the pictures don't show the label this time. Said he upgraded to a bigger one, I don't doubt that at all from what I read about it.

Second the motion on the Hitachi. Got one last year when Amazon briefly had them for $79. Like it a lot. I also got it to upgrade a Craftsman, which I sold on CL for $70! If you have Prime, 2-day shipping is free on the Hitachi.

Just make sure that the disc is perpendicular to it's shaft. The one I got had about a 2 mm wobble which made for very non-square sanding... Amazon does have a great return policy though...

I did not buy it. Did some reasearch on it and all the reveiws were bad. It was not what I had really wanted so I emailed the guy told him that I was no longer interested as I need some bigger and more powerful. He was selling it as he need a bigger one.
