Question about Bies fence on CM 22124

I just bought a Craftsman 22124 with the Biesemeyer fence to replace my
BT3000. After getting it set up yesterday, and paste waxing the table and fence, I noticed how much harder it is to move the fence back and forth than the BT fence was. Do you think its just because the Bies fence is so much heavier than the BT fence? Everything seems to be adjusted correctly. Maybe its just something I need to get used to.

I don't have an answer to your question but, just a couple days ago, I noticed the very same thing on the floor model at the local sears.

The Biese fence is heavy but it should still feel smooth when moving it. If it's adjusted correctly it should move fairly easily. If it's binding something isn't right. Did you wax the front rail on the top and inside edge? There are two hex screws that press against the inside of the front rail to adjust parallism, but they can also be too tight and restrict movement. Also, make sure the "flap" on the cam lock mechanism isn't flipped up...it should be pointing down and pressing between the cam and the front edge of the rail.

The Biesemeyer-clone fence on my cabinet saw has plastic glides on the bottom, so that the full surface and weight of the fence tube isn't resting on the table. Don't know whether the genuine Bieses have these, but it's something to check out. As Dustmight says, these fences are heavy but if properly set up they should slide freely and easily.

I have a 22124 and my fence was a bit tight when I first started using it. For me two things made a diffeence:

1 - when I was unlocking the fence I was jsut just lifting the handle partially. I got into the habit of flipping the lever all the way up til it was caught by the magnet.

2 - I waxed the tube

Tight Biese fence

Noticed that the one at the local Sears is hard to move. The plastic slides on the fence had some black "crud" on them. Wondered if this was removed and the rail was waxed would solve the problem. Thinking about getting a 22124 but did not like how hard it is to move the fence.

The bies fence is going to be a bies fence on any saw... doesn't matter if its a Cman or not. But ,I am one that went from a BT to a 22124 and yes the bies fence is heavier, a lot heavier, so it is going to move differently than what you're used to. It should slide smoothly, but its not going to glide to the end of the table like the BT's fence.

Use Wood Paste Wax on the bottom nylon glides on the fence and the saw's top as it rides on the top, the front rail/ tube has bare metal machined strips, wax them too. You can download a manual from servicenet, dewalts site, for any Bies model saw fence.
