HF Pipe Clamps

I see HF has a cupon for their 3/4 inch pipe clamps for 2.99. I am thinking of picking some on the premise that even HF couldn't screw up a pipe clamp.

Am I wrong on this?

HF has a couple of different pipe clamps. I've bought the heavy duty ones, similar to what Rockler has. 1 of the 5 sets I bought did have issues, but overall I think they were a great deal for the $.

I have 4 1/2" and they've all functioned appropiately.

I have a few sets of the #31255 ¾" pipe clamps. Overall they're pretty good but as with most anything from HF there seems to be a lack of consistency from one set to the next. I had to return a couple of set because the threads weren't right and they wouldn't accept the pipe and one set because of a bad casting. The replacement though were just fine.

I have around 6 sets of the 3/4" and no problems at all. I did look at them pretty carefully at the store to try to sort out the best castings.

I bought a bunch of both the 3/4" and 1/2" ones last night, and had similar issues. Returned 2 of the 1/2" ones for different because they wouldn't thread, the new ones still threaded kinda..

Got them started, but had to use a couple pipe wrenches to really get them together. Probably not the best, but they work fine. I've got a book-case drying right now clamped together with them.
