HItachi TS from Loews, any probs?

I bought the TS from Lowes last year and ever since I got it running it has a very obvious and shake when running and when comming to a stop. I had the BTS3000 and it never had that kind of shaking.

Has any one had this problem with the Hitachi or any ts? does any one know of an adjustment to this saw that I can make?

    Thanks in a advance

Check your pulley alignment with a good straight edge. You might also want to replace the v-belt with a fenner link belt. I put one on my Delta contractor and the difference is astounding.

Hitachi has several models....do you mean the C10FL full size cast iron saw for $500?

Yup, that very same one. It has all the feel of a great saw but it's shaking has me very disapointed. It shakes enough when turned on to launch my Gripper off the side of the table in just a few second.

It's most likely belt related. As suggested, make sure the pulleys are tight and aligned with each other, and be sure the belt is tight enough and is properly seated in the pulley. It could be the belt itself...especially if it's a standard 1/2" "v-belt". I'm not sure what type belt that saw uses. It's less likely to be the belt if it's an automotive serpentine style "poly-v belt" with multiple ridges, but if that is the type it uses, it's more likely that not all the ribs are properly seated in the pulley. If it's a regular v-belt, definitely try replacing it with a link belt, or at least a higher grade rubber v-belt.

There's also some possibility that it's one of the pulleys. Try running the motor with the belt removed...if it's still thumping then it's the motor or the drive pulley. If that's the case, remove the drive pulley to determine which of the two it is.

              Thanks to both of you.

I put a straight edge with a spiritevel and determined that the pullys are not coplanar.

I am going to try the suggestion Dustmight made and run the motor with out the belt to see what sort of shake I get.

              Thanks again.

I removed the belt and the drive pulley and ran the motor alone. The motor seemed to have a rattle to it though not in the motor itself but it seemed that the whole armature that holds the motor had the rattle. I dont think this is anything I can fix. I tried to locate any lose screws but found none.

I will probably have to take the saw back to a Hitachi service center and hope the warranty is still valid. I've had it less than a year and used it only once or twice because of the shaking.
