    Grizzly Table saw G0651

For the last two years I've been drooling over the features that are on Grizzly's 12" Extreme Series Tablesaw (http://grizzly.com/products/12-Extre...e-Phase/G0605X) with the riving knife, digital bevel read out, 52" rip cut, outfeed table and other features it seemed like it would be a good saw to buy and not have to worry about wanting for other features. Although, I didn't like the 12" blades and wished that Grizzly would have a 10" option.

I received the Grizzly catalog and see that they have added a new 10" version of the extreme series saws. Looks like the only difference is the type of the blade guard. http://grizzly.com/products/10-Heavy...ng-Knife/G0651

Powermatic's PM2000 tablesaws have a lot of the same options and a few others but they also sell for aboutn $1000 more.

I'm not really in the market for one right now, but I'd sure have to take another look at these saws when I get the shop built.

Wow, if I only had $2000 and a shop that could hold it...

How about the 0661 Contractors saw with a riving knife for $725?

What would tempt me the most would be one of the "hybrid" sized saws with 50 inch rip capacity, a 110V motor, left tilt and a riving knife.

I have the pm2000, it is in that price range, about 2200$. The saw stop is 1000$ more, not the powermatic.

It does look like a nice saw, and I agree about the 10" vs 12" blade issue, you are more likely to find nice 10" blades for less money.

A cabinet saw like that would be nice to use.

I was drooling over the sawstop at WC today, they are asking $3700 plus tax for the saw, 32" fence and delivery, mobile base is another $300.

That saw looks great and I really want my 'upgrade' from the BT to be a jump to that, but how do you spend that money when you can have a powermatic for $2200? It is almost double.

            Still dreaming.......

              Eric:

I too have been drooling over the 12" with riving for a few months. I was at the Grizzly store in PA a couple weeks ago and saw the new 10" with riving - Sweet Saw!!!

The 12" was on sale and the price was about the same for either. If I had the budget and space, I would go for the bigger one. Since I'd have to get the 220V outlet added to the garage anyway, why not go for more amps and Hp and capacity?

              Enjoy!
              Thanks:

JC, I need to get up to the Griz store one of these days. I don't know that I need anything sizable at this point, but it'd be a fun trip.

Lee, you are making the argument that I made in my head. Most TS injuries are a result of kickback, not blade to flesh interaction, though certainly the latter is scary. I lucked out on my PM2000 as I was affiliated with Rockler for a while, and got it on a special discount. Mostly I wanted a good 3hp+ cabinet saw with a riving knife, and the PM2000 fit the bill, I've been very happy with it.

At that price point I'd have to spring for the few extra bucks and get the PM. My Griz 1023 is the last TS I'll ever own but it's not nearly as good a saw as the PM. I'm waiting for the PDF on parts for that saw to see if the mech. for the riving knife would fit my 1023. Pat

I actually looked at the item in the 2008 catalog, and the price is $100 cheaper, $1695 for the outfeed table, saw and 52" fence and extension.

Actually a bunch of stuff in the 2008 catalog is down in price. The dust collectors all seem to be down in price quite a bit as well.

But, even with the price lower, I do think that the PM2000 is worth the extra cash, the built in mobile base saves you a couple of hundred anyway, making the difference in price even less, and I believe that the Powermatic has a larger table area to boot.

In the end though, I don't think you would really regret any of these purchases. They ALL seem to be very well built saws.

DP: It's worth the trip! The first time I went I just wandered and took it all in.

                        Pat,

The 1023 is a great saw, and what I would have likely ended up with had I not found a deal on my Uni, however the 0605X is in a different class as far as fit and finish. I believe that the 0605X fit and finish exceeds the PM2000 (please don't take offense PM2000 owners!). The 0605X is an incredible saw. Plus you can always use a 10" blade with the saw as it comes with the smaller arbor as well.

Edit: Note the difference in weight between the 0605X and the 0651! 514lbs versus 996lbs! I think I'd kick in $200 more dollars to almost DOUBLE mass! I can't see any reason to get the 0651 over the 0605X.

The powermatic has a huge table, for sure. It's 30.5" from front to back and 42" wide in the cast iron department. Then the extension starts. One of the complaints about the PM2000 is that the finish on the CI isn't as nice as the model 66. Could be, but it's still pretty nice. I think any of these are great saws, no doubt. A guy I know has a uni and asked me about my powermatic. I told him that it's a fantastic saw, but not worth 2200$ when you already have a Unisaw.

                            Was that me? LOL!

I have never measured my Uni cast iron. I added some CI real estate with the bench dog CI lift on the left side. I was figuring one day that my Uni has to be coming in around 800lbs with the outfeed table, extension table, 50" rails, BD CI wing, etc.

It's interesting you mention the table top of the PM. That is one of the big differences that I noticed between the PM2000 and the 0605X. Of course the PM2000 is head and shoulders about the Delta X5 Uni in both flatness and finish IMHO.
