    First TS, need quick opinion

Hi all, I've been lurking for awhile learning all I can while I waited for a good deal to show up on my first TS.

    2 Saws I'm considering:
    BT3 for ~$70

    or a bosch 4000 for ~$200

I was hoping to run across a used hybrid saw but haven't had the opportunity yet.

What do you think about these 2 models at these prices? Pics of the BT3 look a little rough, could just be dusty. No pics of the Bosch yet but I think they're reviewed well.

Uses: Cutting laminate flooring, 4x4, 6x6 (building a pergola and a portico this summer). Some plywood rips and crosscutting duty too but not a lot.

Thanks for any and all feedback folks, it's appreciated.

    -Rob

edit: Any bang-for-the-buck router table attachments available would be a big plus. Limited on space and just bought the Freud from Woodcraft for $120. Time to shop for bits too

I don't know anything about the Bosch, but I would jump on the BT3 for $70. That's really a minimal investment (I would call it a steal) for a very useful saw. Even if it's not in great shape, or you do come across a used hybrid saw (not likely IMHO since they are so new) you can part it out later and come out ahead.

    Welcome to the forum, also.

If the BT3 is in reasonable condition, the parts are worth well more than $70. The BT3 is also has a cutting height capable of cutting that 4x4 in a single pass with the right blade.

That in no way is a suggestion not to buy the Bosch, just pointing some things out.

lol, thanks for the welcome and of course, all disclaimers apply without question.

Appreciate your feedback, sent an email off to the BT3 owner and may pick it up this afternoon if the fence/accessories are included. Linky is in the Bargain alert section.

Yeah i hope you realize you can't cut a 6x6 in one pass, with any 10" saw.

I think the choice would be easy for me - even though I don't know anything about the Bosch - I'd buy the BT, and put that 130 bucks into my hybrid saw fund.

If nothing else, that BT will more then handle what you want to do with it, and you can resell it or part it out when you find your dream saw, for more then you payed for it.

Ah, thanks much for the 6x6 note too, will have to flip and do multiple passes.

If you want a peek at my first outdoor project that this saw will used for, check out the structure at: http://www.baldwinpergolas.com

Not sure which model I'll try to whip up, it may end up a combination of various types.

I'm thinking an outfeed table is going to be mandatory too...will start a new thread as the time approaches.

Pulled the trigger on the BT3!

Saw guard is labeled 1995...and unopened...this guy liked to play dangerously.

Most of it seems to be here, appreciate the help and the $ saved.
