    Blade sharpening

I have two of the BT3 standard blades, a 24 teeth Freud rip blade, and a 80 teeth melamine (also doubles as my crosscut) blade, that I also used on my RAS. I have no idea how many linear feet I pushed through each, but I'm only a weekend woodworker, but did a complete set of kitchen cabinets, and several mostly smaller projects.

I've been using the same 4 blades for about 4 years, (well, the rip blade for about a year), and never had any sharpened. I frequently clean them, but lately I noticed on the 32 (36?) teeth blades that I have to push harder, and I'm getting more burning than I used to, even using a newly clean blade. I also noticed more tear out. So I guess it's time to have the teeth sharpened.

Question to you the experienced WWs here, how do you know when it's time to clean, and when it's time to sharpen?

Do believe you have just figured it out on your own.

What I've learned is that dulling happens so gradually that we often forget what it feels like to cut with a sharp blade. You'll be amazed at the difference (and question why you waited so long) after you have your blades sharpened and take your first cut with them.

Thanks for the responses. Now I'm looking forward to my "new" blades.
