I finally made the switch to a bigger table saw. Don't get me wrong, I love my BT3100, and will keep it if I can find room. But I usually cut sheet goods and needed something a little beefier. I ordered the Grizzly G0478 hybrid last Monday and three days later it's sitting in my garage. Wow, that's quick shipping. Even the Rockler mobile base I ordered at the same time came in the same day. I wasn't able to get to it until yesterday which was killing me seeing it sit. I was worried about it being damaged, as I'd read bad things about Grizzly handling and packaging. Even the Saia guy said this was the best crate job he'd seen come from them, which made me feel better. Opened her up yesterday and saw no visible damage.
No problems assembling except I did have to shim one of the extension wings, which was no big deal. Instruction manual was decent, but not very detailed. Some things I've noticed so far: The blade changing wrench is a piece of crap. First time I used it to take the nut off, I bent it.
I also don't like the design of the splitter/blade guard. It was a pain to align. I do love the Shop Fox Aluma-Classic fence. It was slightly out of alignment, but very easy to adjust. The miter gauge is heavy, but I'll probably upgrade later down the road. The only cutting I did was the pieces for the mobile base. It is quieter than I thought it would be, and it went through the maple like butter. I went with the G0478 for several reasons: Price, enclosed base, the recent review in Popular Woodworking, and the fact that it's pre-wired for 110v, as I don't have 220v in my garage. Thanks for looking.
