Bit of a Gloat..

The LOML and I were in HD picking up some supplies to build some plywood projects from Shopnotes. I check the clearance table each visit of course. A few weeks ago I picked up the floor model Ridgid OSS/BS for $125, not really a gloat because it was missing the rubber sanding drums and sleeves and I had to purchase them. This visit I picked up a DeWalt DW682 Plate Joiner for $55.88. Of course it was the display model and it's missing the accessories (which I can get for about $20, so still not a bad deal IMHO). Add these to the Ridgid 6" Jointer I got for $125 a couple months ago and I must say my shop is starting to look like the tool display at the BORG.

You can add another $100 plus to your $55 for what I paid for my DeWalt. But I gotta confess, I'm using it much less than I expected. I trust splines more than biscuits, and biscuits don't insure alignment.

As for the jointer, that is a great deal. Some of those closeouts have to be looked at carefully to see if all the stuff is with the piece that is supposed to be.

the price on the 6" jointer is amazining. i though i had a deal when i got mine for $350. only to find all sorts of deals afterwards.

since you seem to be finding all sorts of deals at your HD, i would suggest that you keep an eye on all the things there, because it seems like they are removing their things from the displays one at a time.

The HD that is closest to me ("My HD" my wife calls it) still has quite a few display models and hasn't gone to the picture displays (which is a poor choice IMHO). I imagine it will happen eventually though as the other ones near me have gone the picture route.

In the last couple of weeks they had a few discontinued models on clearance such as the older Ridgid planer, a Ryobi planer, some cordless kits and a few odds and ends of portable power tools. None of the prices on them were "gloatable" but the DeWalt plate joiner's $149 clearance tag had fallen off and I played dumb. The tool manager was working a register and told the guy that was helping me to take 25% off the regular price, where he got the $79 regular price for it I don't know, but I wasn't going to argue!

I used it over the weekend and it works just fine, I've never used a biscuit joiner before so I have nothing to compare it to as far as functionality.

I'll be hitting "My HD" frequently to see if I can score any more deals for sure!
