Good deal?!? Ryobi Planer/Bandsaw/Scrollsaw display models 50% off

At my local home depot they are replacing display models of tools with the placards. They are selling the display models at 50% off. They have the Ryobi 1300 planer, the 9" bandsaw and the scrollsaw.

Would these be good items to pick up. The planer was $99, and the bandsaw and scrollsaw were $50 each. Are display items usually ones to be avoided? What's the strategy for buying the displays.

    EDIT:
Now that i think about it, it was probably the AP1301.

You don't want the AP1301 (HD still incorrectly calls it the AP1300). The 1301 has no cutter head lock, and that was the stupidest thing Ryobi could have done to that design.

It also doesn't have any infeed or outfeed tables. If it's the TP1300, that's a great buy... if it's the 1301, I'd leave it to someone else.

The 16-inch scroll saw is okay I believe. I've read some positive comments.

I have the BS901 bandsaw and it works okay for me. It's a pretty decent little band saw if you have it adjusted properly. It has about the same power as most of the competition. At $50, it's a very good buy IMHO. However, at the often sale priced Craftsman 10-inch is much better built. A few weeks ago, that was selling for around $100. I don't think you could hardly go wrong with a $50 Ryobi BS901 though.

      I hope this helps,

Even without the cutter head lock for $99 the planer is worth consideration. I'd also consider the scrollsaw for $50. As for the bandsaw it's too small and because of it's size of limited usefulness.
The thing about display models is that often they are missing items or broken. If complete and unbroken 50% off gets my interest.

I've purchased a few display models from the BORG and Lowe's and if you do end up getting one, don't bring it home and fire it up immediately. Sometimes the folks that put them together have no idea what they are doing and skip steps or don't install certain things. Go through the manual first and then make sure that every setup step has been performed and performed properly. Let's just saw that I've had some experience trying to run improperly configured display models.
