Hitachi has a new cabinet saw. It looks to be a full size saw, but with at 1.5 HP motor instead of a 3 HP motor. Does anyone know anything about this saw? Is it decent?

I haven't seen this particular model in person, but I have seen it's less expensive sibling and predecessor, the C10FL, which is basically a 1.5hp hybrid with a splayed leg base...similar to the Jet 708100 but without the one-piece cast blade shroud that the Jet sports.
Based solely on speculation, it seems that the "C10LA" is essentially the C10FL with a full enclosure and a bit of a fence upgrade. It also appears to have steel wings vs cast iron, and aluminum rails vs steel found on many of it's competitors. It lists at @ $1800(
), was formerly selling at ~ $1200, and is now at $918 shipped, so it doesn't appear to be much of a bargain if my guesses are accurate. I don't see any real advantage over the Craftsman 22124, Steel City 35601, DW746, GI 50-220, Grizzly G0478, Delta 36-715, or Jet ProShop to name a few other decent hybrids, plus it's within $100 of a Grizzly 1023 3hp industrial cabinet saw. Because this is speculation, I realize that it's meaningless, but I'd be surprised (and pleased) to learn that I'm off the mark, and that there are several unstated benefits to this saw.
I'd love to hear facts from someone who's seen it.Last edited by Knottscott; 11-29-2008, 05:28 AM.Happiness is sort of like wetting your pants....everyone can see it, but only you can feel the warmth.
