I am presently struggling with this decision, as I have an opportunity to purchase a Tormek in excellent shape with a couple accessory jigs for 2 Benjamins. I can get a new Jet unit for about $260. I had heard that the Jet was actually an improvement over the Tormek, but I'm not so sure after reading this side-by-side comparison. I have investigated the Work Sharp system also, but since I have a lot of planer blades wider than 2", this system did not seem as attractive. The HF system just doesn't blow my skirt up either, so I'm still choosing between the Tormek and the Jet. The only knock on the Tormek I've seen with any regularity is the high price, but that is out of the equation for me with this impending deal. I haven't seen any comments that the Tormek does not produce the superior edge. Anybody have some thoughts?

Got it!
Had to make a decision to avoid losing the deal. Went with the Tormek. Came with the two-sided stone and grading jig for the wheel, the auxiliary leathers and almost every optional jig except the axe rig, most of them unopened in their boxes. Doesn't look like this rig even got used more than twice. Think I got a steal.
Edit: Yikes! Just added up the cost of the extra accessories I got, and it's almost $500 not including the machine or the standard accessories! Now I'm feelin' a little guilty...

I think you got an absoulute bargain. The Tormek will last forever and does a fine job. If you got alot of accessories you saved about a million bucks right there.Comment
