DW618 stopped spinning when running across maple workbench top

I was running DW618 across workbench top and it stopped on my 3rd attempt.
Couple of times it started spin at the same location I just couldn't move it due to edge grain?

Now, it wouldn't start at all. Any idea how much this will cost me if I take to dewalt service center? I don't think it is covered under warranty.

Check the brushes, sounds like they aren't seating.

ken, thanks for the instructions. I couldn't locate the brushes. I might be looking at the wrong location.

I removed the screws at the bottom and at the top. Used compressed air to blow out the dust. Plugged back in and the motor started and ran for several seconds. after few seconds couple of times the motor sounded like it is slowing down. then it died.

Here is the pic of the top cap removed. where is the brush?

I think the brushes are at 12 and 6 o'clock in the picture inside those rectangular gold colored holders. Here is a link to a parts breakdown of the router. The brushes are item #20, although not shown in the diagram there are usually two.

Thanks!. It looks like it is easy to change. Two clips are holding them inside the holders. Instead of ordering the part from online, I'm going to take it to local Dewalt service center tomorrow and find out how much it will cost me. I might be able to buy the part there.

The SC should have them, they are usually around $5. Hopefully that is the problem.

Got it fixed! I was able to go only today and the SC was about 25 miles across the town. Some part (sorry forgot the name I will call Monday and find out) around the armature/magnet assembly was damaged due to overheat (thanks to endgrain hardmaple) and the brush assembly was loose (my workmanship. I didn't tell). The brushes were fine.

Folks at SC were quite helpful. Initially they said they will fix and ship. But when I asked them whether they could do it while I was waiting. They said fine and it took about 30 mins. Fixed at no cost!. I also picked up set of brushes for $7.42.

The router has date engraved on the side (all tools have it I learnt). They said that is all they need to check whether the tool is under warrenty (1 year full and 3 year limited). They also said they are usually liberal with warrenty & repairs!

Called SC and they said the commutator gone bad due to overheat and they replaced it with new one. I'm going to use the router today to complete the job and hopefully it won't happen again...
