Anyone Seen One Of These?

I've had one of these Craftsman 7 1/2" radial arm miter saws around for a long time. I've had offers if I wanted to sell, but I just can't get rid of it. It seems to fill the gap around the shop for a combination of crosscuts and miter cuts. I'm using it now to do some home renovation of moulding work in combination with my CMS. It's light enough to carry around. The only thing it won't do is raise and lower the arm.

I was wondering how many have seen one of these better yet anyone else here have one?

My FIL had one, but did not need the mobility, so I fixed him up with a full-sized RAS. I think he gave the little one to a neighbor or something.

I've always wondered how well do they work, and does it actually tilt as well?

What size stock can that doodad cut? Doesn't appear to be much room between the fence and the blade (fully extended position).

It does tilt. The whole arm will tilt to a bevel of 48 deg.

I think this saw preceded the SCMS, and IIRC the CMS. I've had one for many years and it seems to fit the bill for an all around in between saw. It's light enough to carry to the jobsite. The arm or the motor doesn't raise or lower. The whole arm tilts with the motor for the bevel cuts (to 48 deg). The whole arm and motor swivels left and right to 48 deg for the miter cuts. The motor does not swivel on the arm like a RAS.

It uses the blades that fit the CS - 7 1/4", and a 5/8" arbor hole. I use only carbide tipped blades. It has a factory setting for about a 10" crosscut, but I think the fence could be moved back for another inch or so.

I've seen these on the "Net" for as low as $50, which is pretty cheap. If you have no RAS, or a sled for the TS, it's a great saw for the short crosscuts and doing miters, and compound miters. I found two numbers for them. Mine is a 315.23741, and I've seen them with a 315.23743.
