    Norton Flattening Stone Quandry

    Needing some help, please.
I have a new Norton Flattening stone, either I lost the 'instructions' or didn't get any.
I have a 2 sided Japanese waterstone that needs a little flattening.
Removed it from the waterbath and rubbed the excess water off.
When I rub the flattener across the stone it gets gummed with waterstone material, with lumps everywhere. Obviously it can't flatten if it's lumpy (can it?).
I rub it with a damp rag and it cleans but it looks like the stuff is going into the flattener.
So, was I suppose to let the waterstone dry before flattening or what.
    This looked simple!

    Thanks a bunch,
    ken

I used Norton flattening stone on Norton double sided waterstones while the waterstones were relatively wet ie after finishing the sharpening. I did not notice guming up.

I NEED to do a bunch of sharpening, maybe I can get around to it and test it out again.
