I picked up a great souvenir on the way home from a 25th anniversary trip this weekend (posted about that last week). We stumbled into one of the largest antique shows in the nation on our way home yesterday. It was held in Madison/Bouckville, NY, and was absolutely huge...more like 10X whatever huge is! We're not really "into" antiques but we do enjoy interesting furniture pieces and neat old stuff, so we spent a couple of hours investigating a very small section of this week long show. The vendors were literally lined up along the road 3 to 4 rows deep for over 1.5 miles...I doubt we covered 1/4 mile section of it.
I saw many old handtools and planes, and finally stumbled on one that caught my interest, and the LOML suggested I grab it (a rare occurence from this frugal mother of 6 BTW!). The price marked was $15, and the vendor said she'd take $10. I told her I was likely to put it to use, and she stated that they had actually used it to build their house, which just intrigued me all the more.
This is small as gloats go, but was a great souvenir to wrap up a really nice trip. For those within driving distance of the Finger Lakes, I can highly recommend visiting the Belhurst Castle in Geneva, Sherwood Inn in Skaneateles, and the Brae Lock Inn in Cazenovia.
