    I will recommend the ryobi 6" if you can find one. They are no longer made. I sold one a few months ago when I moved up to an 8". It's variable speed and always worked well. It's mostly aluminum so it doesn't weight much when your trying to move it around. If you break down your rough stock into slightly oversized pieces and then joint and plane it, a bench top does OK. The ryobi has holes predrilled if you want to attach bed extensions.
