    Bandsaw Mod

I saw a modification for the bandsaw in Workbench magazine a while back and have heard others talking about it as well but have been too afraid to try it myself. Finally got up the nerve last night and chopped a hole in the lower door to attach a dust port.

Very scary as I was cutting the opening with the jigsaw -- thinking "what have I done?". But it turned out fine and it does seem to work pretty well -- tried it a bit last night and it seemed to keep that lower compartment dust free.

Now I want to really clean up the bandsaw from top to bottom and then do some re-sawing so I can give it a true test.

The mod looks good -- like they designed it that way. Do you have anything to attached to be collecting dust at the table?

No, I haven't tried anything at the table itself. I figured most dust was being carried down into the lower cabinet by the blade.

I'll keep experimenting over the weekend to see what works best. I've got a mess now with my DC and have to clean that up based on where I have some tools positioned now. Never enough hours in the day !

Looks good, I did the same thing to the HF I had. Another thing I did was to add a thin wall 4" pvc "T" to mine so I didn't have to fight the hose while using the saw. It takes wrapping the connector you have attached to the lower wheel cover with duct tape to make up the small difference between outside and inside diameters.

          Mine is a little different:

          http://www.toolbarn.com/product/delta/28-276/

So I have the stock dust port pointing out the back and the new one pointing out the front. I may put a Y to the left and then an elbow on each port so the hose heads left from each over to the Y. Will have to see if that gives me better results than just capping off the stock port and using only the new one.
