    Dewalt DW733

I am thinking of giving up on my Grizzly planer due to the amount of snipe and inablility to reduce or eliminate it. Tried all the tricks with table adjustments, extended infeed/outfeed table, etc...

I still get 2" of snipe at both ends of the board. Didn't used to be such a problem but now I am experiencing about 15% waste due to this and processing 300+ board feet of lumber through the planer is starting to add up in $$. The wood is $7.50 a board foot.

So, found this on CraigsList for $225, maybe go for $200. Is this a way to go or am I just fooling myself? Planer seemed to get good reviews, little to no snipe and good planing.

That planer is an older discontinued DeWalt model. It was a good performer in its day but current technology in planers has passed it by. Have you considered looking into reconditioned planers?

Have that same model and am super pleased with it. Only time I get snipe is if I don't support a longer run properly. Should be a good buy at around $200-225.

I feel the same as Joe. Mine performs very well after years of use. I think it's a great deal if you can score it for $200.

Well went and looked. Appeared to have been used very little, it ran but has no dust hood which I used as a detractor. Offered $150 and he never blinked, said "Sold".

Came with a sturdy homemade stand on casters. Got her home and fired it up and ran a board through. I was totally amazed that there was no snipe (not even a hint) and the surface of the wood is near finish ready. A totally different machine than the Grizzly I have. I be thrilled.

Thanks to all who gave feedback and as usual, the members here are invaluable in providing great information.

Thanks, gonna need one. As with most planers, it throws a lot of chips.
