    Rust Removal

    I just acquired a Jet 6" Jointer.
It's never been used but it was stored in a shed for a couple years and the iron tables have rusted.

Any suggestions on how to remove the rust?

    Thanks,
    Rand

If it is not too pitted, you can sand it with a ROS and a scotch pad. An alternative is to use a chemical remover like Rust-free. Automotive stores also sell gel-type rust remover.

Just know that the chemicals will sometimes turn the tables a dull gray color.

Scotchbrite pad and WD40 worked good for me. On bad rust I have used 400grit wet/dry and WD40, no scratches when I was done.

Barkeepers[cleanser ]Friend, at Walmart ,is excellent, a mild acid w. polishing agents. Water added to powder or they now have a liquid. Very inexpensive too.

OSPHO is another great product. Many uses and reasonably priced.
