    DC on a 5" ROS?

I have the PC 5" ROS. I have tried to hook it up to my Shop Vac, but the vac just screams as it's starving for air. What is the best way to hook this up? I cobbled something together before that looked like junk, and worked like it, too.

Should I use one of those univeral step down adapters? What about make up air?

First question: You are using sandpaper with holes in the bottom, right?

If you are using the right sandpaper, then perhaps the solution would be to drill a few holes in the hose you're using, as a vent.

FWIW, my PC 5" ROS works fine with my Ridgid 1450 vac.

Holes on the bottom? Oh man, mine has holes on the top

I think I am going to get an adapter and drill some holes in that if I need to. I think someone posted a Bargain Alert some time ago on some 1" hose and a connector for this type od application. I think I need some of that to free some of the bulk and rigidness of my 2 1/2" hose.

I use my shop vac with my bosch, and it works great. Had to order an adapter for it though.

          Morning Joey...

I use to run a 5" PC with a 2 1/2 HP shop vac with a 1 1/4" hose. I took one if the universal adaptors and cut the step I needed to connect. I would route the hose and electrical cord over my shoulder down to the sander on the stock to keep them from hanging on the work-bench.. assembly table.. etc.

The larger 2 1/2" hose is not as flexible and is probably over-powered for the right match up with that PC. But the smaller 2 1/2 HP with the 1 1/4" hose proved to be very efficient for me.

          Regards...

I have both the Ridgid and the Ryobi 5" RO Sanders. I have a little 2.5 gallon Ridgid "Stinger" vac that I use with a fairly long old Hoover vac hose "1-1/4", I think). The hose is pretty flexible.

With the "Stinger's" paper bag filter, it does a pretty decent job of getting better than 90% of the dust. The bigger 12 gal Ridgid vac is too much a pain to haul up and down stairs, but when I'm working in the garage or basement, it works fine. Both of those ROS's use 8-hole paper, so there's enough flow not to starve the vacs.

You can get a step-down adapter and put a ring cut from PVC pipe over one of the intermediate steps. Then drill four 3/8" holes through both the PVC ring and the step-down at about 90-degree intervals. Now you can add or delete suction capacity by turning the PVC ring so the holes fully line up, partially line up, or do not line up at all (full suction power). As mentioned earlier, a 1-1/4" hose might be easier to work with, and you can use this modified stepdown as a coupler between your 2-1/2" hose and the new 1-1/4" hose, to keep the contraption out of your way.

                Dc on a PC ros...

I had that same delema a while back, solved it this way. I bought a Bosch
1" vac hose at Klingspor woodworking shop, it hooks up to almost every
portable power tool I have including the PC ros and shop vac with little or no adapters needed. Check it out ...may be what you need. I posted on this site a few weeks ago about that so check the archives for more info...it may help. eezlock

I connect my DeWalt ROS to my shop vac, and it works great - as long as holes on the sandpaper are aligned with holes on the pad.
