    Dewalt 8" Dado Stack DW7670

So I've had the vermont amercia 6" stacked dado set for a year and a half now and thought it was time to upgrade to a carbide tipped set. I haven't been 100% satisfied with the VA set but I've been able to get by. I first had my heart set on the Freud SD206 then realized the SD208 is only $10 more. Just before I pulled the trigger I did some additional research and the Dewalt DW7670 came into the picture. I read some reviews where guys have used both and preferred the Dewalt over the Freud. I'm definitely now leaning towards the Dewalt and just wanted to check with you guys on what you thought. Overall from what I've read the Dewalt seems to have better features with just a couple of drawbacks such as the country of mfg. and that the carbide is thinner than the Freud.

The DW7670 has twice as many teeth, and consequently leaves a cleaner cut. The 7670 is more similar to the Forrest's design. Both of these sets will serve you well but I do think the DW has a performance edge.

The DW is also available as a Delta 35-7670 which may improve your odds of finding a sale. Looks identical to me.

Sounds like you may have already read this...epinions.com/DW7670

When I first started out, I did a lot of dadoes and grooves with both a stack set and wobble. I think I used the wobble once in all that time. With the amount of dadoes I do, I prefer doing them with a router versus a stack set. I find its more difficult to hold down material than running a router over it. I don't like changing blades unless I have to, and if I have to use the TS, I then have to manually measure each dado distance due to the fence index of the Biesemeyer.

I get much better bottoms routing. I also like being able to see what I'm doing. As for dado width for odd dimensions or minute adjustments, a small blip to the fence works well using the TS.

Thanks for the comments guys. There's been another twist in the dado blade purchase. So I was ready to order the dewalt dado and discovered the cutting tools from infinity. I ended up getting the contractor's set for $200 + $6.50 shipping. http://www.infinitytools.com/products.asp?dept=1324 It includes the 8" dadonator, max combo 50 tooth TK and 24 tooth Rip TK. Seems like the infinity blades received good reviews especially the dado blade. They list this combo for $234.90 and the promo code didn't seem to be working so I called them. Apparently the promo had expired a couple of weeks ago but they were able to still honor the a promo which I thought was pretty cool of them. I was initially planning to spend about $100 on a dado set but couldn't pass up on the what seems like a really good deal. The dado alone usually sells for $180, for $20 more I'm getting a rip and a combo blade.

Oooh, you done good! Odds are excellent that the Dadonator is a better dado set than the DW, and I know from experience that the Combomax is a really nice blade.

Why didn't you get free s/h?

          Enjoy!

I asked about the free shipping but there are some "restrictions". They always charge for dado sets because of the weight. But I figure since they were knocking off $34.90 the least I could do is pay the shipping which was more than reasonable. Thanks!

Now I have more combo blades than I know what to do with. What do you guys do with multiple blades? Keep using one till it needs sharpening or switch them out based on the quality of the cut needed?

That's a good problem to have! I can't afford a collection of cars so I accumulate blades! I tend to use whichever one of the combos I feel like using (pretending to be choosing which of my fancy cars to drive today), and tend to only switch in a ripper for real thick stock.

Always good to have a quality backup during resharpenings of the primary.
