Stanley 78

Showing my vast ignorance on planes here, is the current Stanley 12-078 the 'repalcement' for the #78?
I'm thinking a rabbet plane would be sweet for when I only beed a couple of rabbets, instead of setting up the router.

The 12-078 does appear to be the new replacement. However, I would save my money and look for a good old 78 from pre 1950. You can find them fairly easily at flea markets and garage sales. The steel is better, and they go to work quicker since most have already been fettled.

If your looking for a 78 you may want to look for another version which the number escapes me, but it's just like the 78 but has 2 arms for the fence instead of just a 1 arm fence like the 78. This keeps the fence from constantly unscrewing itself.

Unfortunatly it's a little harder to find though and costs a bit more. Doing a quick search it looks like it's Records version of the 78, 778 I believe.
